Silver Y

Autographa gamma (73.015)

The Silver Y is a common migrant species which can occur in great numbers in the right conditions. The breeding population of spring migrants quickly increases the numbers of adult which are themselves boosted by further migrations from Europe throughout the summer.

The adult moths are on the wing from spring until late autumn and are often observed feeding from flowers in urban and suburban gardens, especially on warm, summer evenings.
